Did Lizzie Borden commit the perfect crime, by murdering her father and step-mother to inherit her

father's wealth? Or was it

 an unknown intruder?

 intruder have to commit

such a horrendous crime?

 What would have been

 gained? Lizzie and the

maid Maggie were in the

house at the time the

 step-mother was killed,

but neither one heard

 anything. Mrs. Borden

was struck from behind

and fell on the floor. She

was killed with a heavy sharp instrument. She was struck 18 times, 13 of the blows crushed through her skull. She lay dead in the upstairs bedroom for approximately an hour and a half before Mr. Borden was killed in the downstairs sitting room. He was struck in the head 11 times, 4 of the blows crushing his skull. Mr. Borden was one the wealthiest men in Fall Rivers, Mass. But he was extremely frugal with his money. Lizzie resented her step-mother for having gained one of Mr. Borden's rental houses and receiving the money from the rent. Lizzie and her sister's inheritance had gotten considerably smaller, because Mr. Borden was going to leave the bulk of his wealth to his wife. — Cont. Next Column
